We’re thrilled to introduce the Paxton/Patterson Labs at Black Rock High School this year. These cuttingedge labs offer an array of career-focused courses that provide students with hands-on, real-world learning experiences in fields such as Emergency and Fire Services, Welding, Criminalistics, Nursing, Dentistry, Flight and Drone Technology, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Alternative Energy, and Child Development. Students gain practical skills and knowledge through immersive, problem-based learning, preparing them for future careers while exploring their interests and aptitudes.
In Emergency and Fire Services, students learn the roles and responsibilities of emergency responders, while in Welding, they master the foundational techniques essential to the craft. Criminalistics students apply forensic science techniques to analyze crime scenes, and those in Nursing get hands-on experience in patient care, including taking vitals and performing medical procedures. Our Dentistry program offers insights into everything from dental hygiene to creating dental castings, while Flight and Drone Technology introduces students to the principles of flight and drone operation. The EMT course allows students to practice life-saving skills like CPR and wound care, while the Alternative Energy program explores sustainable solutions. In Child Development, students focus on the intellectual, physical, and emotional growth of children, making real-world connections to careers in the field.
The College and Career Labs are designed to give students the ultimate career exploration experience, whether they are discovering broad career clusters or diving deeper into a focused pathway. By blending technical skills with critical thinking, these labs foster innovation, problem-solving, and a deeper understanding of various industries, setting our students up for success in college and beyond. This initiative is a pivotal step in preparing our students for a rapidly evolving workforce and future success.
