Morongo Unified School District is thrilled to announce the receipt of a generous donation of 500 backpacks from the Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians. This incredible act of kindness will directly benefit students across the district, ensuring they are well-prepared for the school year ahead.
The donation was made as part of the Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians ongoing commitment to supporting education and youth in the community. Each backpack is filled with essential school supplies, including notebooks, pencils and other tools necessary for academic success.
Superintendent Dr. Patricio Vargas thanked the tribe for their amazing donation.
"We are profoundly grateful to theTwenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians for their generous contribution,” he said. “This donation not only provides our students with the resources they need to succeed but also reinforces the strong relationship between our school district and the Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians. Every student should have what they need to learn and be successful and partnerships like this make that happen.”
The backpacks will be distributed to students in need throughout the District over the coming weeks and throughout the remainder of the school year.
“Every year we see students in Winter or Spring with broken backpacks, stained backpacks, backpacks that are just falling apart and a lot of those families can’t afford to replace them,” said MUSD Homeless Liaison Wayne Hamilton. “Having these backpacks on-hand will allow us to support those students directly and relieve some of that financial burden from our families.”
If your student is in need of a backpack please reach out to your school’s front office or to the District office.
