The Morongo Unified School District Board of Education appointed John Cole to the board this afternoon to represent Trustee Area 2, an area that encompasses northern Twentynine Palms, Wonder Valley and the Combat Center.
Cole will fill the seat left by Ms. Cathy Nelson who resigned from the board in September. He will serve on the board until December 2024.
Cole is a long-time community member and served on the board previously from 2019 to 2020. Cole worked in the Morongo Unified School District for 41 years as a teacher, coach, administrator, principal and assistant superintendent. He has also served on the Twentynine Palms City Council and is a former Mayor of Twentynine Palms.
“We're excited that John Cole will be joining our team,” said Superintendent Dr. Patricio Vargas. “I’m looking forward to working with John and accomplishing great things for our district and our community.”
